Remembered event
Directly experienced and recalled, with the ordinary unreliability of memory.
Contemporary record
Supported by a message, note, calendar entry or other artefact made at the time.
Present interpretation
A current reading of what something meant — analysis that postdates the events.
Uncertain / reconstructed memory
Believed to have happened roughly this way, but not separable from later retelling.
Redacted for privacy
A real detail deliberately withheld because it belongs to someone else.
